Ronald Boellaard is Full Professor in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the University Medical Centre Groningen (The Netherlands), in the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine at the VU University Medical Centre, Amsterdam.
He studied both biology and physics at the University of Amsterdam. After obtaining his Master degree, he performed his PhD project at the Radiotherapy Department of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital in Amsterdam, where he worked on in vivo dosimetry with a portal imaging device. Next, he was appointed as medical physicist at the Department of Nuclear Medicine of the VU Medical Center.
During the last 15 years, his main research interests have focused on quantification of oncological, cardiac and brain PET studies, including pharmacokinetic analysis and full quantification of new PET radiotracers. Moreover, he is the first author of the European guideline for quantitative multicenter FDG PET/CT imaging. He is actively participating as PI for several national and international research projects on the validation of quantitative (PET) imaging biomarkers.
