João Ramalho-Santos is Associate Professor at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, where he concluded his PhD in Cell Biology in 1997.
He was a post-doctoral fellow in Reproductive Biology at Oregon Health & Science University, USA (1997-2000), a Visiting Scientist at University of Pittsburgh, USA (2003-2006) and a Fulbright Fellow at University of California San Francisco, USA (2009).
He currently is the Head of the Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cells Group at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the University of Coimbra, of which he is also Director. He works on the bioenergetics and metabolism of gametes and pluripotent stem cells as related to Assisted Reproduction and differentiation.
He has published 120 papers (cited 3400 times, h-index 32-ISI; cited 5500 times h-index 38 Google Scholar), performs reviews for over 30 journals, is on the editorial board of Human Reproduction and Reproduction, and performs evaluations for National and International agencies, including FCT (Portugal), MRC (UK), DFG (Germany), Fulbright Foundation (USA).
